Level 1 Monster Boyfriend: For Beginners

Look, we actually have a movie entry for once! And it's the quality movie adaption for Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and boy howdy, we all know I'm about monsters. Even if vampires are entry level but whatever! No one cares about my opinion on the internet and that can be really great sometimes.

The movie follows the general newfound "life" given to Louis by the vampire Lestat and their ensuing years together as a couple along with their "adoption" of a girl named Claudia. The three spend 65 years together seemingly at relative peace but Claudia mentally begins to outgrow her child like body, resentful at Lestat for having changed her so early in her life as well as keeping secrets of the vampire world hidden from her and Louis. After an ensuing fight, Louis and Claudia part from Lestat to Spain.

As someone somewhat resentful of puberty's effects on me, for a brief moment I wondered if I would feel for Claudia and in the end I really did. Not having others take you seriously is exhausting enough as is, and being treated like a child when you aren't one is aggravating to no end. While normally the best way to raise Claudia would've been to raise her and turn her once she became a young adult, when they found her, she was already dying and the only way to prevent it would've been to turn her. But they didn't have any emotional attachments to her at the time other than that she was pretty, why didn't they just find a healthy orphan and raise her? Or hell, they're vampires, just kill a family and take their kid. Like there was nothing really forcing Lestat to pick Claudia but he did anyhow, I can't help but feel like the emotional consequences weren't worth it. For a vampire, Lestat is relatively short sighted.

I sadly have yet to read the other books in the series since they obviously don't have movies for them yet and I'm also poor, but even at the end I was still hoping for Louis and Lestat to reconcile. I really hope this isn't a spoiler, but since Claudia died at the hands of other vampires, it would seem like the two really only have each other. Someone who knows what they're going through and can provide some form of comfort.
